Poverty
The original problem we would try to help solve was crime. One can do many things to try and prevent crime, but most of the time it's quite costly and inefficient. By looking into the reason people commit crimes, poverty is a giant contributor to the reason. Many impoverished criminals believe that force is the easiest way to get a large quantity of items and that the risk of getting caught is worth the trouble. The thing is that crime can cause poverty, but poverty also causes crime. It basically is an infinite cycle of despair for the people caught in it.

Some people have said that to take care of poverty, we must attack crime first. It seems like a great idea like, "Wow! Two birds with one stone!" Crime will always happen even if the criminal is not in poverty, so this would be a better alternative to help reduce it by a good amount.
